Food is the ingredient that binds us all together.
We are so lucky to live in this area, on the border of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, a short drive to Cambridge and a half hour train to London. Why am I telling you this? It sets the scene of why the foodie scene in this area is so great! The house prices in London are soaring which means people are steadily moving out to the commuter belt towns. I think that this has had a great effect on the foodie scene here in Hitchin, from Street Food Monthly Events throughout the Summer and all of the other amazing independent foodie spots that are continually popping up. Have a read of the places that we just cannot get enough of in Hitchin. (In no particular order)
This is one of my all time favourite restaurants, not just in Hitchin but anywhere I have visited. I love when you walk into a place and you can immediately see the passion that has been put into every detail. Food and Wine recommendations are a plenty you can tell that every member of staff knows and loves the Menu. The Wine is incredible and hand selected to pair perfectly with their food, Gin lovers do not despair they have you covered with a selection of high quality and tempting Gins! I honestly don't know where to start with the food... Their Modern take on Tapas, made with locally sourced ingredients is impeccable. I have tried and loved dishes that I would never ever pick on a menu, but their confidence in their Food makes you want to be adventurous. Book a Table today you will not be dissapointed.

- Daily Croquettes, I have tried a few of these and every single one was wonderful
A spectacular Coffee Shop with an amazing compact yet Menu. If we ever have a weekend off you will often find Ben and I enjoying their Sunday Brunch, their Pancakes are to die for! However the thing that I love most about their Brunch , it finishes at 4pm! Not even your hangover will stop you feasting on these beaut Pancakes. They don't just conquer their Sunday Brunch, their everyday Menu is also impressive. The only issue I have with their Menu, I want to eat it ALL! They take simple classic dishes and make them the stars of their Menu. I still standby the fact that their Scrambled Egg on toast is the best I have had anywhere and their Chicken Avo Club Sandwich is delish! It has a great environment for working or catching up with friends, but pre warn you won't be chatting much when the food is there... You will definitely be eating! There are no reservations, you just rock up and pray you won't have to wait too long. Want to find out more about them check out our interview with Ben, one of the owners.

Fabio's is definitely the Willy Wonka's of the Gelato world, with flavours from Butterbeer to Big Mac it is safe to say they have gone to extremes that most Gelato shops wouldn't even dream of. All of their Gelato is made in house and there are new flavours everyday, they also cater to lots of dietary requirements. With Vegan Ice Cream and Gluten Free and Vegan cones everyone can join in on the Gelato fun! They don't just do Gelato, their Hot Donut and Gelato Stacks are a speciality and there waffles are incredible. Not in the mood for Gelato? They serve amazing Hertfordshire Roasted Coffee which you can enjoy with Cakes made by Posh Cakes and Puddings. If that wasn't enough they also hold Street Food Pop Up Nights, so customers can enjoy Street Food and Gelato for dinner!
Our Favourite Dish

- Mint Choc Chip Gelato
Hermit of Redcoats
Based just outside of Hitchin in Little Wymondley but it is worth the short drive to get there. One thing that you can never go wrong with is a proper country pub, however the Hermit of Redcoats really takes it to the next level. Firstly it is Dog Friendly, so it is perfect for long Sunday walks before their epic Roasts. Secondly they have over 52 GINS, so if you are a Gin Lover you could spend a fair few nights getting through that list! On top of their extensive Gin list they have an amazing Menu that makes use of local seasonal produce, it is not only locally sourced but it is of the highest quality. Their Menu is ever changing to ensure they get the most out of the seasonal produce. This really isn't your typical Country Pub, the level of food that they produce you would assume would be paired with a stuffy atmosphere. In fact it is the complete opposite, it is a laid back foodie escape set in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. Perfect for Special Occasions or a laid back Sunday Lunch.

The Little Deli
If we are going to be honest you can't really go wrong with any Deli, but there is something special about the Little Deli. Firstly like us they are a family run and owned business, all of this started with a Passion for good food and the need to share it with people. Every product in their shop has been carefully selected, with a huge focus on locally sourced products. However their will always be a demand for the European Greats, Prosciutto, Mortadella etc. so they mix the amazing British Produce that they have found with the European Classics. As I said we are so lucky to live in this area, not only are their incredible deli's and restaurants but some of the UK's Top Suppliers are on our Doorstep lucky for us we now have the chance to access their amazing produce right on our High Street. For example they sell Mrs Middleton's Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oils (Check out our interview with her here) who have one two gold star in the Taste Awards. All of the Staff at The Little Deli are super knowledgeable and helpful, we have worked with them numerous times when creating our specials. Not only that but their goodies make for an EPIC Picnic.
