Opening of The Kite at Red Hart, Hitchin

Opening of The Kite at Red Hart, Hitchin

May 4, 2018

Why Limit yourself to one Happy Hour a Day?

If any of you had visited The Hart, Hitchin then you will be shocked when you see the transformation it has undergone. However grotty it was I know for sure that you would have fond memories of this Pub. Hazy yes, but definitely still fond memories! What I found nice is I feel like this Pub has now grown up with me. Gone are the days of Apple Sours and stumbling around. Now it is Fancy Cocktails, Canapes and stumbling around! The Kite at the Red Hart is now an elegant and classy joint, with a hint of your Old favourite. Trust me when you come here you will feel a weird sense of familiarity and happiness. If you hadn't had the pleasure to go to The Hart before it's millennial makeover I'm sure that you to will feel a weird sense of belonging.

We were lucky enough to be invited to The Kite at The Red Hart's Opening Party. Along with lots of other local business owners. We were so delighted to be invited, and we could not wait to see what they had done with the place. Ever since we found out that it was going to be renovated we had been waiting (impatiently) to see what would become of one of our old haunts. Tom and Ben are the people behind The Groundworks. My personal fave Brunch Spot in Town and definitely one of Hitchin's go to Coffee Shops. They are lovely people and it's fantastic to see people so close to my age doing so well, find out more about them check out this Post. My end goal is to have a restaurant in Hitchin. It was inspiring to know people who have now achieved this, not once but twice.

As soon as we walked through the Old Wooden Gates we were instantly excited. It looks so different and you can tell that every aspect has been carefully and lovingly chosen. From the wooden benches and the Fogarty Oven they have fitted every detail has been thought of. The Garden is amazing, elegantly styled with trees and fairy lights, impeccable garden furniture and a lawned area. Everything just flows and instantly you just know that you are going to be a regular here in the summer! We were greeted with prosecco and coupon vouchers to be used for a selection of fun activities.

The choices for the vouchers below:

  • The Gin Garden

  • Snake Bite Cocktail

  • Beer

  • Cheese and Meat Tasting

  • Wine Tasting

Highlighted here are the options that we chose to use our coupons on, I can never so no to good gin and a cracking cocktail!  Ben was driving so we didn't do the Wine Tasting. I think after our trip last week we had had enough of wine! Plus we were intrigued to get more of an insight into ethos of their food, so the Meat and Cheese tasting was perfect.

We got to meet the Butchers and Cheese suppliers and all I can say is that they are the creme de la creme of suppliers, they were so informative and enthusiastic. If you can find a supplier that is as passionate about food as you are, then you are halfway there. Only sourcing the finest British Ingredients to make this a very select and homegrown menu. So homegrown in fact they have a vegetable patch out the back that they source as much as they can for their bar and restaurants.

The Main Menus are for true food enthusiasts. Those who want to can spend an evening enjoying good food, good drinks and a great atmosphere, have the option of either a 5 or 8 Course Tasting Menu. You will get to have time to really appreciate the dishes that have been lovingly created for you. The Bar Snacks sound truly incredible, and the ones that we tried definitely lived up to my high expectations, you could make a good British Style Tapas meal out of the Bar Snacks Menu alone. The Cocktail list is punchy and unique, plus major points for the fact that they are not only instagramable but delicious! They have curated a versatile and individual Wine and Craft Beer List that will cater to everyone's tastes, whilst at the same time getting you to try something new. Now we all know that it wouldn't be a British Pub without a Sunday Roast, and The Kite at the Red Hart is no exception. They will be offering a 2 or 3 course option that again looks amazing.

This is definitely an exciting and different venture to be popping up in Hitchin and we cannot wait to see where it goes from here. The Bar space is beautiful, a mixture of both modern and old and has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant space is sleek and intimate, perfect for long enjoyable evenings with their Tasting Menus. We also got the chance to have a sneak peak at what will be the Private Hire Room aka The Marshal Room; again another stunning space that is big enough to not feel crowded and intimate enough for it not to feel lost if you have a smaller event. They have managed to merge the old and the new throughout the whole property inside and out, in a magnificent yet subtle way. Their restaurant is open from the 15th May, but it is open now for their amazing Drinks and Bar Snacks. Also Ben would be furious if I didn't mention something he was personally v excited about (I blame Winter Wonderland) they have Steins. Ok they can only hold 1 Pint, but they definitely still do look cool! If you get the chance to pop down then do let us know what you think!
