Our Interview with Emily from Emily Jane Cakes.

Our Interview with Emily from Emily Jane Cakes.

October 9, 2017

The Secret Ingredient is Always Love.

This week we had the privilege of interviewing Emily from Emily Jane Cakes. They are an AMAZING local company that creates the most incredible creations for any of your Cake needs! I mean let's be honest who doesn't love cake? Especially one that only taste incredible but look stunning as well. The only thing that Emily will make hard for you is choosing what stunning design or incredible flavour to choose from!

I am a huge lover of baking ... however I always seem to fail at the final stage the decorating. I always stick to simple and 'rustic' designs so even I can't muck them up too much! Even when you think I'm being fancy (I'm really not) Take my Chocolate and Raspberry Tart how fancy does this look? Really it is just some strategically placed Raspberries and Edible Flowers and the even simpler dusting of Icing Sugar!

Thankfully there are people out there like Emily Jane who can help us (I'm hoping there are other hopeless decorators out there!) She runs regular workshops helping with our lack of

decorating skills. Keep an eye on her facebook page for a wide range of workshops that she has to offer! This Christmas she is running numerous workshops for Cupcakes and Cookies. I mean who wouldn't want to learn how to make these amazing cupcakes?! They are so cute and Festive.

Emily also loves to team up with other local businesses to work on her projects and classes.  She is running a Christmas Wreath and Cupcake Class with Lucas May Florists what better way to get in the festive Spirit and learn some new skills at the same time!

Take a look below at our Interview with the amazing Emily Jane below.

What made you start your own business?

After working for a couple well recognised wedding cake companies I felt confident in my abilities as a cake maker, and wanted to be able to see the whole process of making somebody’s wedding cake from start to finish through. I loved the idea of meeting with clients hearing all about their wedding day and designing the cake of their dreams to compliment it, to making the cake and then delivering it on the wedding day to see their vision come together.

What has been your most exciting booking to date?

I have been very lucky to make lots of lovely cakes for clients. I particularly enjoy making wedding cakes as it’s such a personal service and a privilege to be a small part of such a special day and knowing that they will have a picture of my cake in their wedding photo albums forever is a lovely feeling.

What was your first 'I made it' moment?

Being asked to be the recommended cake maker for some very prestigious wedding venues. What is the toughest part of your job? Finding time to do everything and learning new skills along the way to help build your business. I love being creative and baking but accounts and web development until starting my business had never been on my radar, so this was a learning curve. What is the best part of your job? Seeing the lovely reactions of my clients when they receive cakes and receiving thank you cards from our Bride and Grooms.

What is your most memorable food experience?

Wow there have been many, I love food! I come from a family of talented chefs so food has always been a big part of my life, so much so I initially trained as a Cordon Bleu chef. A great early memory for me would have to be a family holiday to Provence where I ate some of the best food that I ever have, amazing fish, bread, patisseries and cheeses. We stayed in a beautiful chateau surrounded by lavender fields where everything we ate was made and produced on site with ingredients sourced from their land and gardens.

Name one food you couldn't live without?

Macaroons

What is your most memorable Travel experience?

A recent trip to Australia with my husband has to be up there, we hired a campervan and travelled down the east coast, it’s something I will never forget.

Where is your go to place for inspiration?

I can get inspiration from all sorts for my cake designs, from wallpapers, fabrics, wedding dresses and flowers.

Name one thing you cannot live without?

Country walks with my two dogs as it’s the perfect way to start and organise my day ahead.
