Everyday is a Good Day for Gelato.
We all know that Pizza is one of my great Food Loves, but there is also another Italian Food that I cannot get enough of ... Gelato. No not Ice Cream, Gelato. And yes there is a Huge Difference! Its smoother fresher and you can taste every flavour that has been lovingly created.
My most memorable Gelato experience was definitely in Rome. Gelateria Valentino, right next to the Trevi Fountain. Any flavour you could imagine and all INCREDIBLE. I mean the setting may have helped but I still remember it as if it was yesterday and as you can see from the photo below it definitely wasn't! Trust me if you are ever in Rome make sure you go here, you will not be disappointed.
Thankfully my Gelato prayers were answered back in 2015 when Fabio's opened up there Gelato store in Hitchin. With their innovative flavours and dedication to always mixing things up it is no wonder that it is now a full fledged member of the Hitchin Foodie Scene.
Not only are they great at what they do but they love to share their Gelato Love with everyone.
Whether it be with other local restaurants like The Duchy Pot or The Hermitage or their regular customers. I once messaged asking for suggestions to go with our dessert for a dinner party. They were amazingly helpful gave me both the safe and adventurous options. We chose the classic salted caramel and Vanilla to go with our Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Fabio's now does way more than their incredible Gelato. With Freshly Made cakes from Posh Cakes and Puddings, Waffles, Hertfordshire Roasted Coffee (LuLu Coffee) and even Italian Wines and Beers.
Basically if you have a sweet tooth then this is the place to be, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. My personal faves are the Mint Chocolate Chip and the Salted Caramel or the Strawberry I could go on and on, basically you will love anything you try there! We were lucky enough to find out a little bit more about what inspired Fabio and Hannah and we wanted to share it all with you!
What made you start your own business?
Myself and Hannah started the business as we have a love for food and knew there for many years no one was offering good quality Gelato locally like they do in Rome.
What was your first I made it moment?
I think that “I made it” moment is a few years off, but the day we opened up to huge queues was theday we thought wow we created this.
What is the toughest part of your job?
It’s all tough work, that’s why we love it!
What is your most memorable food experience?
Taking late night walks to a local Piazza in Italy with family and friends enjoying the cooler
temperatures and locally produced pot of cherry Gelato.
Name one food you couldn’t live without?
What is your most memorable travel experience?
Proposing to Hannah in Rome.
Where is your go to place for inspiration?
Anywhere there’s food, going out for dinner is good to let the brain relax. It also means we can
check out meus and think about what Gelato we would pair desserts with. We love a trip to
Brighton, as we find it very trendy where businesses dare to be different, always full of inspiration there.
Name one thing you couldn’t live without?
Hannah and our parrot Rocky.
